Schools
Phoenix contains 325 public schools spread across 30 school districts, along with more than 200 charter and private schools; the city government hosts a page with district and attendance-boundary information at phoenix.gov. Many separate independent elementary school districts serve grades K-8 within the city and are paired with high school districts serving grades 9-12, a legacy of the city expanding through annexation of surrounding territory. Examples include the Phoenix Elementary School District #1, whose boundaries run from 27th Avenue on the west to 20th Street on the east and from Osborn Road on the north to the Salt River on the south, and the Isaac Elementary School District, bounded by Van Buren Street, 51st Avenue, 19th Avenue, and roughly Thomas Road. Attendance boundaries can be looked up through each district's website or through the City of Phoenix school districts resource page.
Getting around
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport sits about four miles from the downtown city center. The Valley Metro Rail light rail system runs 26 miles from 19th Avenue in upper-central Phoenix to downtown Mesa, with a ride from end to end taking around 85 minutes; the A Line connects to Phoenix Sky Harbor via the free PHX Sky Train at the 44th Street/Washington station. Valley Metro also operates local bus routes throughout the metropolitan area, including service to the airport's Sky Train stations.
